Doença do disco intervertebral em trabalhadores da perfuração de petróleo

Abstract: A cross-sectional study among 1,026 oil drilling workers in Northeast Brazil found a prevalence rate of 5% for intervertebral disk disease, varying from 1.8% (activities without heavy lifting) and 4.5% (occasional lifting) to 7.2% (routine lifting). Disease prevalence was 10.5% among drilling workers with more than 15 years in the industry and 11.3% among those over 40 years of age. Prevalence ratio (PR) for the association between working in oil drilling operations and intervertebral disk disease was 2.3 (95%… Show more

“…Both the dynamic forces related to displacements, carrying loads and using steps, ladders or stairs, and the static forces related to supporting heavy loads, to uncomfortable positions and to restriction of movement, can contribute to injuries to joints and to intervertebral discs 7,24 . Factors that have been identified as conferring a risk of occupational low back pain include cumulative traumas, dynamic activities related to movements of trunk flexion and rotation, heavy physical work, bending or squatting, macro traumas, lifting or carrying loads, exposure to long work shifts without pauses, whole-body vibrations and static and inadequate postures 6,11,[25][26][27][28][29][30] .…”
