“…The researchers provide surveys of the relevant literature and consider both the positive and negative impacts of FDI to the poor -indirectly by growth-enhancing effects, and directly by distributional effects. The majority of the reviewed studies support that FDI may improve poverty rates and income distribution (Agénor, 2003;Sharma and Gani, 2004;MacDonald and Majeed, 2010b;Reiter and Steensma, 2010;Lehnert et al, 2013;Ucal, 2014;Soumaré, 2015). Other studies make points towards FDI having neutral or negative effects on the poor (Stiglitz, 2002;Huang et al, 2010;Gohou and Soumaré, 2012;Groot, 2014;Uttama, 2015;Agénor, 2003).…”

“…Kanbur (1998) views technological changes as one of the potential sources of widening gaps between unskilled and skilled labour. Likewise, Agenor (2004) also notes that more trade openness and economic integration lead to significant substitution between unskilled labour and capital, contrary to higher complementarity between skilled labour and capital.…”

“…The continuous efforts of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to fight for no boundaries and discrimination between its trading partners has encouraged many researchers to investigate the chain effects of trade openness on income distribution (see for example, Ravallion and Jayasuriya, 1988;Glewwe, 1988;Carneiro and Arbache, 2003;Agenor, 2004;Meschi and Vivarelli, 2008;Roses, Galarraga and Tirado, 2010;Mah, 2013).…”
