In this study based on evolutionary game theory and data on conditions in China, we determine the main factors affecting business entrepreneurship and innovation entrepreneurship. We consider internal and external perspectives regarding entrepreneurship–institutional quality and foreign direct investment (FDI). Accordingly, we find that institutional quality has a positive effect on nurturing entrepreneurship, especially business entrepreneurship, and FDI does not effectively stimulate entrepreneurship, particularly innovation entrepreneurship. With regard to spatial heterogeneity, in different regions, institutional quality and FDI have diverse effects on fostering entrepreneurship. According to the trend analysis, we find that the relationship between FDI and entrepreneurship takes an inverted‐U shape, in contrast to the relationship between most types of institutional quality and entrepreneurship. When FDI and institutional quality jointly cultivate entrepreneurship, the interaction between them is not effective. Moreover, we find that institutional quality affects entrepreneurship mostly through the channels of economic growth, the scale of the home market, and industrial upgrading. By contrast, FDI does not effectively affect these channels to further foster entrepreneurship. These conclusions not only enrich the literature on entrepreneurship but also offer insights into how entrepreneurship can be stimulated in China and the rest of the world.

Previous studies have analysed how religious beliefs may affect economic activity. We extend this literature by examining how Confucianism is linked to innovation activity at the firm level in China. We analyse the relationship between Confucianism and several proxies for input and outputs of innovation activities. Our results show that Confucianism is significantly related to lower levels of innovation activity regardless of which measure for firm‐level innovation we use. We also find that the nature of ultimate ownership influences this relationship, with innovation among state‐controlled firms being significantly more affected by Confucianism. This study thus adds to the understanding of how traditional belief systems influence behaviour among economic actors.

ABSTRAKStudi tentang ketertkiatan agama dengan pembangunan ekonomi daerah masih belum menjadi perhatian utama bagi para peneliti Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, peneliti bermaksud menguji pengaruh agama dan pembangunan ekonomi pertanian dengan pembengunan ekonomi regional di Banten. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data sekunder periode 2000 -2016. Variabel yang digunakan antara lain pembangunan ekonomi, agama, dan pembangunan pertanian. Variabel pembangunan ekonomi diukur dengan pendapatan perkapita. Variabel Agama menggunakan indikator proporsi jumlah penduduk Muslim dan variabel pembangunan pertanian diukur dengan log dari nilai sektor pertanian dalam produk domestik regional bruto (PDRB). Metode analisis adalah regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembangunan pertanian berkontribusi signifikan terhadap pembangunan ekonomi, tetapi agama tidak berpengaruh signifikan. Adapun secara simultan, hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh antara agama dan pembangunan pertanian terhadap pembangunan ekonomi di Banten tahun 2000-2016. Kata kunci: Agama, Pembangunan Pertanian, dan Pembangunan Ekonomi Abstract The study of religious involvement with regional economic development is still not a major concern for Indonesian researchers. Therefore, the researcher intends to examine the influence of religion and agricultural economic development with regional economic development in Banten. The data used in this study are secondary data for the period 2000 -2016. Variables used include economic development, religion, and agricultural development. The variable of economic development is measured by income per capita. The Religious variable uses an indicator of the proportion of the Moslem population and the agricultural development variable is measured by the log of the value of the agricultural sector in the gross regional domestic product (GRDP). The method of analysis is multiple linier regression. The results showed that agricultural development contributed significantly to economic development, but religion had no significant effect. Simultaneously, the results of the study indicate that there is an influence between religion and agricultural development on economic development in Banten in [2000][2001][2002][2003][2004][2005][2006][2007][2008][2009][2010][2011][2012][2013][2014][2015][2016].
