In Turkey, the dominant political ideology is nationalism, but there are different variants competing for influence. Kemalism, the philosophy that laid the foundations for modern Turkey, advocated for a top-down modernization and secularisation of society, but also crucially involved creating a modern western-style nation state. The decades of the 1920s and 1930s saw the establishment of Kemalism as the official state ideology. Until the late 1990s, Kemalism remained as the state ideology, despite being challenged by a wide range of political tendencies. The greatest and most serious threat has come from political Islam, which rejects key tenets of the Kemalist ideology, namely western modernization and secularism. Conflict between Kemalists and Islamists on the national level has simmered since the 1970s, but a defining moment occurred in 2002 with the electoral victory of the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP). Over a period of 20 years in power, the AKP has eliminated much of the Kemalist improvements to Turkey's state institutions, society and culture. The result of the AKP’s Islamic nationalist policies has been increased political polarisation and friction in Turkish politics and society. This political polarisation led to an unusual practice in everyday politics; supporters on both sides manifest their respective ideologies via stickers with political messages displayed on the rear windscreens of cars as a challenge to the opposing ideology. Based on the findings of interviews conducted with owners of cars displaying these messages, this study aims to analyse the meaning of this practice in relation to everyday nationalism, and its implications for Turkish politics at large.

Günümüzde, pandeminin de etkisiyle, özel ilgi turizminin bir çeşidi olarak doğa temelli turizme yönelik artan bir ilginin olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. İnsanlar artık sağlıkları açısından riskli gördükleri kalabalık ortamlardan uzaklaşarak, sessiz ve sakin bir doğa ortamında vakit geçirmeye yönelik bir eğilim göstermektedirler. Bu kapsamda, doğa temelli turizme katılım gösteren bireylerin seyahat motivasyonlarını ve yaşam doyumlarını ortaya koymak önemli görülmektedir. Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, doğa temelli turizme katılan bireylerin seyahat motivasyonlarını ve yaşam doyumlarını ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma kapsamında kasti örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak 263 bireyden veri elde edilmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında edinilen verilere tanımlayıcı analizler, faktör analizi, güvenirlik analizi, t testi analizi ve ANOVA analizleri uygulanmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarına göre bireyleri doğa temelli turizme katılmaya iten başlıca faktörlerin; doğa ile buluşma, kaçış ve rahatlama, yenilik arama ve iyi vakit geçirme oldukları tespit edilmiştir. Bireyleri doğa temelli turizm destinasyonlarına çeken başlıca faktörlerin ise doğa, sakinlik ve destinasyon imkanları olduğu belirlenmiştir. Doğa temelli turizme katılan bireylerin yaşam doyumu düzeylerinin ise ortalamanın nispeten üzerinde olduğu bulunmuştur.

This study aimed to determine the level of devotion of the students who take the outdoor sports training to nature. It is a quantitative study, including a total of 220 students, 130 boys, and 90 girls, who took elective and compulsory outdoor sports training at Kırıkkale University in the 2021-2022 academic year. The scale used in the research was developed by Mayer and Frantz (2004) and adapted to Turkish by Bektaş et al. (2017). While collecting the data, pre-test and post-test data regarding the students' age, gender, and anthropometric characteristics (height, body weight, body fat) were taken. Analysis results found significant differences between male and female students and the control group in both dimensions of the scale; In general, it was observed that the students who took the training the outdoor sport training had higher levels of devotion to nature. The main finding of this research is that outdoor sports training is very effective in increasing the devotion to nature. Outdoor sports training should be given to increase adults' devotion to nature.
