Domain-specific and nonspecific outcomes of work-family interface

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the pattern of work-family interface outcomes by empirically testing work-family conflict and facilitation bidirectional dimensions simultaneously in relation to domains-specific (job and family) and domain nonspecific (life) satisfactions. In addition, the indirect effects of work-family interface dimensions on life satisfaction (LS), mediated through both domain-specific satisfactions are also examined to understand which domain satisfaction elicits major impac… Show more

“…For example, the COR theory helps explain how an individual's exposure to family-to-work conflict (De Clercq et al, 2019) takes them away from positive work behaviors. Although much research has been done on work-family conflict and the inclusion of personal life at the workplace (Aboobaker and Edward, 2020;Bhalla and Kang, 2019), few studies have examined the effect of individual home constructs on the workplace.…”

“…Even though previous research has examined the effects of work demands on burnout, little attention has been paid to the exposure of family demands on burnout and its outcomes at the work interface. Similarly, recent years have seen a steady increase in research examining work-family interface and its effects on personal and work outcomes (Aboobaker and Edward, 2020;Bhalla and Kang, 2019). Most work-home interface studies have concentrated on the influence of work on the family (Kalliath et al, 2019;Wayne et al, 2017); it is crucial to explore further insights about family-to-work spillovers or their impacts on the workplace as well (Bai et al, 2020;Lim and Tai, 2014).…”

“…(1) Job satisfaction (e.g. Aryee et al, 2005;Bhalla and Kang, 2019;Carlson et al, 2014;Hill, 2005;Jaga and Bagraim, 2011;Kalliath et al, 2019;Koekemoer et al, 2017) and career satisfaction increase (e.g. Jaga and Bagraim, 2011;Lu et al, 2009) decide the behavior toward events) to propose that job behavior is predicted by job attitude.…”

“…Thus, WFE predicts performance and turnover intent through job satisfaction (Carlson et al, 2011a, b;Miheli c, 2014), and job well-being mediates between WFE and job satisfaction (Kalliath et al, 2019). WFE and FWE improve life satisfaction through both job and family satisfaction (Bhalla and Kang, 2019), while "workers' life satisfaction" acts as a linking mechanism between WFE and job performance (Lim et al, 2012). Furthermore, using the broad and build theory (psychological state fix adaptive or resource building mindset), Carlson et al (2014) noted that psychological distress acted as a link between both WFE and FWE and job and family satisfaction.…”
