Abstract:IntroductionSeveral studies have suggested a role of dopamine in the pathophysiology of migraine [1]. Functional experiments have shown that dopamine is involved in the control of cerebral circulation. Dopamine after blockade of alpha-or beta-adrenoceptors induces relaxation of the smooth muscle of cerebral arteries. These effects are mimicked by dopamine receptor agonists and blocked by dopamine receptor antagonists [2][3][4]. On the other hand, dopamine induces vasodilatation of pial arteries through an inte… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
