Dose Effects and Comparative Effectiveness of Extended Release Dexmethylphenidate and Mixed Amphetamine Salts

Abstract: Objective: To compare the dose effects of long-acting extended-release dexmethylphenidate (ER d-MPH) and ER mixed amphetamine salts (ER MAS) on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptom dimensions, global and specific impairments, and common adverse events associated with stimulants. Methods: Fifty-six children and adolescents with ADHD participated in an 8-week, double-blind, crossover study comparing ER d-MPH (10, 20, 25-30 mg) and ER MAS (10, 20,(25)(26)(27)(28)(29)(30)) with a week of randomi… Show more

“…The WFIRS-P is a parent-reported measure of ADHD-related functional impairment that is designed for both clinical and research use (CADDRA, 2011). The scale has demonstrated sensitivity (Maziade et al, 2009;Stein et al, 2011) and addresses the domains of daily functioning that are likely to be impaired in ADHD Co, 2007, 2008). It consists of 50 items rated on a 4-point Likert scale covering six domains: family, learning and school (learning and behavior), life skills, child's self-concept, social activities and risky activities.…”

“…Stein et al [52] recently compared 3 dose levels of ER-MAS with ER dexmethylphenidate and a placebo, using a crossover design in 56 children (30 % stimulant naïve) and adolescents in a placebo, controlled, crossover 8-week trial. As seen in Fig.…”

“…Although general functional impairment scales, which evaluate functional impairment, are used all over the world, in Turkey, few scales that evaluate disease-related functional impairment are available. The Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale (WFIRS) measures functional impairment in ADHD, is valid in an ADHD sample, and has been used in randomized controlled studies (Maziade et al 2009;Stein et al 2011;Hantson et al 2012;Coghill 2011 ;CADDRA 2011). There is no scale in Turkey with documented validity and reliability that assesses ADHD-specific functional impairment that can be used in childhood and adolescence.…”
