Double-diffusive convection in an inclined porous layer with a concentration-based internal heat source

Abstract: The thermosolutal instability of double-diffusive convection in an inclined fluid-saturated porous layer with a concentration-based internal heat source is investigated. The linear instability of small-amplitude perturbations to the system is analyzed with respect to transverse and longitudinal rolls. The resultant eigenvalue problem is solved numerically utilizing the Chebyshev tau method. It is shown that an increasing inclination angle causes a strong stabilization in the transverse rolls irrespective of th… Show more

“…Although several authors have investigated the instability in an inclined mono-diffusive porous layer using linear and nonlinear theories, as discussed above, only recently, Matta & Hill [32] performed a linear instability analysis of double-diffusive convection in an inclined porous layer where concentration and temperature have destabilizing and stabilizing influences, respectively. Thus, in the configuration considered by Matta & Hill [32], it is difficult to predict whether the instability observed is solely due to the double-diffusive convection or due to the combined effect of the double-diffusive convection and the imposed unstable stratification of the solute.…”

“…Nonlinear stability analysis of double-diffusive convection in a horizontal fluid saturated porous layer has been investigated (Deepika et al, 2016). Matta (2017) studied the thermal swell instability of oblique fluid double-diffusion convection in saturated porous layers. Xu (2016) studied the heat and mass transfer convection of a mass-containing heat source in a cavity with different exit locations.…”
