Draft Genome Sequence of Serratia marcescens Strain LCT-SM213

Abstract: bSerratia marcescens is a species of Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium of the family Enterobacteriaceae. S. marcescens can cause nosocomial infections, particularly catheter-associated bacteremia, urinary tract infections, and wound infections. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of Serratia marcescens strain LCT-SM213, which was isolated from CGMCC 1.1857.

“…The genome of Serratia sp. strain TEL was found to be 5,000,541 bp in size, with a G+C content of 59.1%, which was similar to that of other Serratia species ( 11 13 ). Furthermore, the contigs were annotated using the NCBI Prokaryotic Genome Automatic Annotation Pipeline.…”

“…In another S. marcescens strain (LCT-SM213), the prodigiosin biosynthetic genes pigB-pigP have been found (Wang et al 2012). In the genome of Pseudoalteromonas rubra, the first cycloprodigiosin biosynthetic cluster has recently been identified (Xie et al 2012).…”

“…Serratia species associated with Oscheius EPN species also secretes various metabolites some of which have the ability to kill insect hosts and inhibit growth of competing bacterial and fungal species, as is the case with Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus ( 7 ). One metabolite with antibiotic activity secreted by Serratia marcescens is prodigiosin ( 8 , 9 ). Here we present the description of the draft genome sequence and the annotation of S. marcescens strain MCB associated with Oscheius sp.…”
