Objectives:To determine the prevalence of stroke and its management with various risk factors, i.e. non-modifiable and modifiable at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Methods:It is a prospective and observational study conducted over a period of six months including established cases of stroke. The study was carried out in100 patients to evaluate risk factors and management of stroke. The data obtained with the designed data collection form were analyzed using Odds ratio and Chi-Square test.Results: Ischemic stroke accounted for 70% of cases followed by Intracerebral Hemorrhage (20%) Subarachnoid hemorrhage (5%) and Transient Ischemic Attack (5%). Out of 100 patients, there were 74 male and 26 female patients, indicating males at higher risk. Majority of patients were between the age group 41-60 y. based on the Odds ratio hypertensive and alcoholics were more prone to stroke occurrence and recurrence. Chi-Square test performed for age and gender was not significant at significance level P<0.05. Conclusion:In this study, ischemic stroke was most prevalent. Hypertension was the major risk factor indicating strong evidence of stroke occurrence and recurrence. The factors having the major implication in the development of stroke were Hypertension, Alcoholism, Smoking, Diabetes Mellitus, Epilepsy, Coronary Artery Disease, Tobacco, and others. Proper management includes non-pharmacological (physiotherapy) along with pharmacological treatment (Osmotic diuretics were most commonly prescribed followed by hypolipidemics, cognition enhancers, anticoagulants, dual antihypertensive therapy).

Objective:The main objectives of our study include classification, analysis and assessment of all the post-operative drugs present of our study. Methods:The current project being a retrospective drug utilization review 50 prescriptions from the post-surgical wards of obstetrics-gynaecology and surgical gastroenterology departments were collected and analysed.Results: All the data collected was classified, analysed and assessed based on the various factors and the results were people between the age group of 41-50 have undergone more number of surgeries 22%. Only 32% of all the prescriptions were found to have poly pharmacy, classification of all the prescribed drugs shows that the anti biotics were prescribed in the maximum number i.e. 152doses. Parenteral type of formulation was given in high number of doses up to 506 doses. Defined daily doses of all the W. H. O essential drug list medications were done. W. H. O prescribing indicators for all the drugs in our study was also calculated. Conclusion:Our study concludes that the antibiotic drug therapy was used as prophylaxis to prevent the bacterial infection.

Is There Any Benefit of Citicoline for Acute Ischemic Stroke ? Systematic Review of Current Evidences

Two main strategies have been suggested for the treatment of ischemic stroke including reperfusion and neuroprotection. Citicoline is one of neuroprotector agent that commonly used in ischemic stroke. A systematic review of citicoline focusing only on ischemic stroke has not yet performed. This systematic review aimed to identify the effectiveness of citicoline in patients with ischemic stroke history. A systematic research was performed using PubMed and Cochrane Library as the database. Keywords were: "citicoline and stroke", "citicoline and ischemic stroke", and "randomized controlled trial citicoline". The inclusion criteria were: (i) the trials conducted between 2007 to 2017, (ii) written in English, (iii) the studies performed in human, (iv) patients had ischemic stroke history, (v) citicoline was the main drug assessed in the study. The exclusion criteria i.e.: (i) the study was not a randomized controlled trial (RCT) and (ii) the full text was not available. The quality of RCT was determined by using Jadad score. A literature search revealed 541 journals from PubMed and Cochrane Library. After screening the title and abstract, adjusting for inclusion and exclusion criteria, adjusting for the irrelevant topic, and duplication the final result was 4 RCT studies. All studies had a good quality, indicated by Jadad score of 3 or more. Three studies conclude that no statistically significant difference in treatment outcome between citicoline and other groups. The last study revealed citicoline is effective in preventing post-stroke cognitive impairment.
