Dual-band tunable perfect metamaterial absorber in the THz range

Abstract: In this paper, a dual-band perfect absorber, composed of a periodically patterned elliptical nanodisk graphene structure and a metal ground plane spaced by a thin SiO(2) dielectric layer, is proposed and investigated. Numerical results reveal that the absorption spectrum of the graphene-based structure displays two perfect absorption peaks in the terahertz band, corresponding to the absorption value of 99% at 35μm and 97%at 59μm, respectively. And the resonance frequency of the absorber can be tunned by contro… Show more

“…As shown in Fig. 3(a), it is obvious that the electric field at frequency f m1 is mainly concentrated on both sides of the square ring, indicating the existence of an electric dipole resonance on the square ring, as reported by Yao et al [27] . Additionally, the y componenta of the magnetic field at frequency f m1 are mainly focused on the middle of STO layer, which means that there exists a magnetic dipole resonance [28] , as shown in Fig.…”

“…3(c). The resonant phenomenon at low frequency f m1 is the fundamental electromagnetic dipole resonance that appeared in some literature [15,21,[27][28][29] . As for the frequency f m2 , it can be seen from Figs.…”

“…So far, based on this mechanism, metamaterial near-unity absorbers with electrical resonators including metallic disks14, strips1516, crosses10, and L-shaped structures17 have been designed and investigated comprehensively. By combining multiple resonators with different sizes together to form a super unit cell, the multi-channel or broadband perfect absorbers have also been achieved18192021. In addition, the method of the stack multilayer of resonators with different geometric parameters separated by dielectric layers has been used to realize the multi-channel or broadband absorption peaks2223.…”

“…Recently, a progress toward the improvement of tune method has been made by changing the material properties. Graphene [13][14][15][16][17] and strontium titanate 18,19 have been proposed for tunable metamaterials. Nevertheless, the fabrication of these kinds of devices is still a big challenge at current state-of-the-art.…”
