Dual-Energy Computed Tomography for the Detection of Late Enhancement in Reperfused Chronic Infarction

Abstract: This feasibility study shows a high accuracy and a good correlation of LE-DECT and LE-MRI to histopathology for the detection of LE in a porcine model of reperfused chronic MI.

“…12 Deseive et al 12 compared LIE-DECT findings obtained 5, 10, and 15 minutes after injection of contrast medium with histopathology and LGE-MRI in a porcine model. In comparison of both studies, sensitivity (89% vs 62%), specificity (98% vs 97%), and PPV (91% vs 80%) were superior in the current study.…”

“…10,11 Encouraging results from LIE-DECT imaging in animal models for the detection of CMI have been published, whereas no human studies have been performed so far. 12 The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic value of LIE-DECT to 3-T late gadoliniumYenhancement (LGE) MRI for the detection of CMI in humans. Furthermore, the impact of linear blending of highY and lowYkilovoltage peak information as well as the effect of selective myocardial iodine distribution analysis on diagnostic accuracy, infarct volume, and subjective image quality were investigated.…”

“…The use of dual-energy CT has recently shown promise in animal and patient studies of myocardial infarction. [88][89][90][91] In addition, the development of hybrid MR-PET imaging holds great promise in further improvement of viability assessment and even more precise prediction of functional recovery after revascularization. 92 However, installed bases may limit the use to dedicated research applications.…”

“…By using an automated software package (PMOD; PMOD Technologies, Zurich, Switzerland), myocardium was reoriented into short-axis images and segmentation was performed according to a 17-myocardial segment model [2,16] as shown in Fig. 1.…”
