The sustainability of vegetable and fruit development model in the food estate area depends on the ability to cultivate commodities demanded by the market in a chain of efficient marketing. The purpose of this study is to probe consumer behaviour regarding the availability of fruit and vegetable commodities, the problems associated with it, and to analyse potential for developing technological innovations in the village of Belanti Siam. This research was conducted in 2020 via interviews with 33 respondents, utilizing analysis of consumer preferences and qualitative descriptive analysis methods. The results show that the population met the needs of fruit and vegetables from harvesting and purchasing. The availability of those commodities is more consistent if they are self-produced since the farmers’ can do their own quality and cost-control. The integration of rice commodities with vegetables and fruit is expected to overcome the constraints of a shortage caused by logistical challenges and poor quality due to relying only on outsourcing from outside the region. Increased income of farmers and marketers through value chain enhancement created from the ability to meet product requirements according to market needs, maintained quality and cost efficiency has the potential to develop the adoption of horticultural technology innovations in a sustainable manner in food estates.

Sumber bahan organik di perkebunan kelapa sawit cukup besar, utamanya TKS dan POME yang merupakan produk samping dari pengolahan TBS di pabrik kelapa sawit. Sayangnya sejauh ini perhatian pekebun kelapa sawit terhadap pemanfaatan bahan organik di perkebunan kelapa sawit hanya dititik beratkan pada pengaruh langsung bahan organik terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman yaitu terhadap kandungan hara yang ada pada bahan organik tersebut. Padahal, bahan organik memiliki peranan yang lebih penting dari hanya sekedar sebagai sumber hara, yaitu peranannya terhadap perbaikan kualitas tanah agar tanah memiliki kapasitas yang tinggi untuk menyediakan hara bagi tanaman sehingga dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan efektivitas pemupukan. Telah banyak hasil penelitian yang mengungkapkan bahwa bahan organik dapat memperbaiki efisiensi dan efektivitas pemupukan melalui perannya dalam hal memperbaiki kualitas tanah. Dalam tulisan ini di uraikan secara ringkas bagaimana mekanisme bahan organik dalam meningkatkan efisiensi dan efektivitas pemupukan. Dari sifat fisik kimia misalnya, bahan organik berperan dalam memperbaiki struktur tanah sehingga tanah sebagai media tumbuh memberikan kondisi aerasi perakaran yang baik untuk mendukung perkembangan akar tanaman. Dari sifat kimia tanah, bahan organik berperan untuk meningkatkan KTK tanah sehingga hara yang dipalikasikan lewat pupuk tidak segera hilang tercuci dan dapat diserap oleh akar tanaman. Sementara itu dari sifat biologi tanah, bahan organik merupakan sumber energi bagi biota tanah untuk melakukan berbagai aktivitasnya di dalam tanah, disamping sebagai penghasil enzim, hormon, dan senyawa-senyawa organik yang mempengaruhi dinamika dan ketersediaan hara di dalam tanah.

Shallot is one of the most important vegetables for Indonesian people due to its circumstances as the main ingredient in many Indonesian foods. The use of organic materials as nutrient sources is growing, concerning the increasing consumer demands on organic products and environmental issues such as climate change. Using organic materials helps plants to mitigate and adapt the environmental changes. This review described the potential organic sources as liquid organic fertilizer to support shallot growth. The method of this review was a systematic literature review that was grouped by themes. Liquid organic fertilizer is one of the most effective ways to improve plant production. The results showed that the effect of liquid organic fertilizer depends on the raw materials that were used. Several organic materials that potentially enhance shallot production and quality would be discussed, including rabbit manure, black soldier fly manure (kasgot) and white lead tree leaves. Those organic materials contain a high concentration of phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen that might accelerate shallot growth. The potential effect of those organic materials on increasing shallot production would be described briefly.
