Duration of serological response to canine parvovirus‐type 2, canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus type 1 and canine parainfluenza virus in client‐owned dogs inAustralia

Abstract: These results suggest that the duration of serological response induced by modified-live vaccines against CPV-2, CDV, CAV-1 and CPiV, including Canvac(®) vaccines, is beyond 18 months and may extend up to 9 years. Accordingly, these vaccines may be considered for use in extended revaccination interval protocols as recommended by current canine vaccine guidelines.

“…Following the introduction of commercial vaccines in 1960, canine distemper became an uncommon disease in industrialised countries . Vaccination with attenuated live or recombinant vaccines has been proven to provide an immune response against CDV for up to 3 years . It is speculated that protective immunity lasts much longer, possibly for life, although studies to verify these theories have not been completed .…”

“…Core vaccines must be provided to all adult dogs, but need be given no more frequently than every three years, although serological and challenge studies indicate that the protection conferred by these products is likely much longer (Mitchell and others 2012, Schultz and others 2010). Triennial core revaccination is completely in accordance with the currently available product ranges for most canine core vaccines.…”
