Dynamic and Compliant Characteristics of a Cartesian-Guided Tripod Machine

Abstract: This paper is focused on the dynamic and compliant characteristics of a three-axis parallel kinematic machine called a Cartesian-guided tripod (CGT), which has a passive leg locking the platform three rotational degrees of freedom. Because no constraint mechanism is perfect with infinite rigidity, a compliance model has been developed to determine the maximum amplitude of the passive-leg parasitic motions using given loads. System compliance, dynamic characteristics, vibration modes, and servo-contouring error… Show more

“…In the same way, Reference [14] focused on a control strategy that allows vibration avoidance, but this approach is suitable only for machines that operate with point-to-point movements; in Reference [15], a control strategy was applied to cornering applications (i.e., the movement of a Cartesian machine where speed direction changes are required). Finally, in Reference [16], a Cartesian-guided tripod dynamic model was studied, and the vibrations were damped by means of a control strategy.…”

“…In order to meet stringent tolerance and surface finish, a great deal of attention has been paid to the machining process and the machine tool (MPMT) itself [1][2][3].…”

“…As parallel mechanisms and parallel kinematic machines (PKM) have advantages of high stiffness, more agile, better accuracy and sample mechanical structure, etc. over serial mechanisms, optimal architecture design of parallel mechanisms, therefore, has drawn much attention in recent years [4,5,6,7,8,9].…”
