Summary
In distribution system, the power quality is improvised by connecting a hybrid shunt compensator at the load end. In this paper, the design analysis of hybrid shunt compensator parameters is presented for smooth filter current tracking. This design eliminates the requirement of an extra ripple filter at Point of Common Coupling (PCC), in case of non‐stiff source. The performance of the compensator mainly depends on dc voltage of Voltage Source Converter (VSC), and it will be affected during load variations. To improve the performance of dc voltage, an adaptive control scheme is proposed. The proposed method improves the steady state and transient performances, and also having low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of source current in steady state condition. Also, the control scheme reduces switching losses and switching stress by maintaining more appropriate dc voltage corresponding to load point. To show the performance of the proposed algorithm, simulation and experimental studies have been performed.
