Dynamic Shared‐Taxi Dispatch Algorithm with Hybrid‐Simulated Annealing

Abstract: Taxi is certainly the most popular type of ondemand transportation service in urban areas because taxi-dispatching systems offer more and better services in terms of shorter wait times and passenger travel convenience. However, a shortage of taxicabs has always been critical in many urban contexts especially during peak hours, and taxi has great potential to maximize its efficiency by employing the shared-ride concept. There are recent successes in dynamic ride-sharing projects that are expected to bring subst… Show more

“…The air pollution has been becoming more and more frequent and severe in China, and is increasingly considered as a major factor to affect a city's livability and residents' well-being. Indeed, the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have attracted much attention by government agencies, academia, as well as the general public (Kolmanovsky et al, 2011;Liao et al, 2012;Slavin et al, 2013;Yin et al, 2015;Martani et al, 2016;Jung et al, 2016;Levin et al, 2016;Zockaie et al, 2016;Taheri et al, 2016;Chen and Guan, 2017). Almost 30% of GHG emissions are determined by the amount of fuels consumed by the transportation sector, which has been a major contributor to energy consumption and C 2018 Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering.…”

“…Despite recent algorithmic advancements [27], [17], [28], the scalability of exact methods remains limited to problem instances of moderate size. Therefore, in this work, we compute distance-minimizing request-vehicle ridesharing assignments using an Insertion Heuristic [29]. The requestvehicle matching is implemented as follows:…”

“…The development of a hybrid approach for the on-line VRP is practical in logistics operations. Previous research on the VRP shows that hybrid heuristic approaches might be able to provide better results than individual heuristics alone (Ho et al, 2001;Ribeiro et al, 2005;Mauri and Lorena, 2007;Ho et al, 2008;Lin et al, 2009;Wang and Lu, 2009;Jung et al, 2016).…”
