Dynamic spectrum sharing for heterogeneous wireless network via cognitive radio

Abstract: The current utilization of the spectrum is quite inefficient; consequently, if properly used, there is no shortage of the spectrum that is presently available. Therefore, it is anticipated that more flexible use of spectrum and spectrum sharing between radio systems will be key enablers to facilitate the successful implementation of future systems. Cognitive radio, however, is known as the most intelligent and promising technique in solving the problem of spectrum sharing. In this paper, we consider the techni… Show more

“…Distances to the primary users were normalized to [0,10]. Figure 4 shows the comparison of call blocking of the service provider using the Fuzzy logic system and normal Spectrum Utilization (NSU) [7][8][9][10][11][12]. As the call arrival rate increases the blocking rate gets decreased.…”

“…Extensive signaling is also required when operators with displaced networks share spectrum [4]. [9] and [10] propose the deployment of a cognitive radio sensing network that facilitates sharing unused channels between noncollocated cells to eliminate the need for signaling between cells. However, the deployment of such a network would be challenging.…”

“…Among them, Pico node is mainly used to enhance coverage of hot spot and increase the overall system capacity. In this paper, we take a further step with the introduction of Pico nodes, and then a CR-OFDMA HetNet is investigated [14][15][16]. Coupled with the CR technology, the users attached to MBS should be viewed as primary users (PUs), and those attached to Pico base station (PBS) should be regarded as CR users (CRUs).…”
