Abstract: BackgroundThe effect of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is not assessed within the first 10 years postpartum, regardless of subsequent diabetes. Two groups were formed: women with a history of GDM and … Show more

“…Twenty five cohorts reported the diagnostic criteria for diabetes being used: 7 utilized the WHO's 1985 criteria (17,18,22,23,33,39,44), 6 with the ADA's (24,27,30,38,43,45), 5 used the WHO's 1999 criteria (1999) (18,25,29,34,46), 4 used local or self-reported criteria (31,35,36,41), 1 with the National Diabetes Surveillance System's (NDSS) (32), and the Carpenter-Coustan's modification of the National Diabetes Data Group criteria (42), respectively. According to the study design, 7 out of 30 were retrospectvie cohort studies (21,23,26,36,37,39,42), while the others were prospective ones.…”

“…During this time, 14.9% of the nonobese women with a history of GDM developed hypertension; the hazard ratio, adjusted for maternal age, preeclampsia, parity, smoking status, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, was 2.0 (1.8–2.2); and in the obese women with a history of GDM, the rate of hypertension rose to 26.8% and the hazard ratio to 3.7 (3.2–4.3). Goueslard et al [17] recently reported on a large nationwide population-based retrospective study conducted in France, with a follow-up of 7 years. They considered 62,958 women with and 1,452,429 women without a history of GDM.…”
