“…The extreme temperature and heat wave events, as well as the associated large‐scale atmospheric circulation, are analyzed using daily mean near‐surface air temperatures from the European Center for Medium‐Range Weather Forecast Twentieth Century Reanalysis (ERA‐20C; Poli et al, ). We choose the ERA‐20C in order to be consistent with Lopez et al () as their study served as the main motivation as well as the basis for the analysis presented here.
