Early Evaluation of Uncertainties in the Incremental Condensate Recovery Through a Gas Cycling Process

Abstract: In the case of a gas condensate reservoir assessed by two wells only, the recovery mechanism (primary depletion or gas-cycling) has not been selected yet. To succeed in the development project, the gas condensate recovery increment given by the gas-cycling option shall be completely demonstrated and above all shall not be overestimated at an early stage of the field life. Therefore, decisions shall be made taking into consideration reliable results from the flow simulations … Show more

“…Therefore, gas cycling is very sensitive to small scale heterogeneity that has an impact in the intra well connectivity pattern (ref. 1). Hence, it is needed to: • Define small scale heterogeneity that could be covering large extensions of the field (from static data, or through an inversion process based on production data); • Take into account the interaction between that heterogeneity and the local flow pattern through an upscaling procedure.…”

“…Gerard Massona examined the effects of geological uncertainties on extra condensate output resulting from the potential introduction of the cycling process during the phase with only two appraisal wells in the field [16]. he asserts that the effectiveness of the cycling process is dependent on the heterogeneity of the deposits, and increased heterogeneity yields decreased additional condensate production.…”
