“…Competition Increasing need for space generates narrower niches, burrowing and tiering and expansion into new habitats Waisfeld et al, 2003;Servais et al, 2008 Plankton revolution Marked increase in phytoplankton and zooplankton fuelled diversifications at all levels in the food chain Servais et al, 2008Servais et al, , 2009Servais et al, , 2010 Predation Diversification of predators ignited GOBE arms race, increased burrowing, mobility and skeletal protection Servais et al, 2010Servais et al, 2006Servais et al, , 2013. Such studies convincingly highlight the importance of regional studies as the building blocks of any global datasets and the individuality of both clades and continents.…”

“…The development of lithistid sponges with different growth forms within this type of reef may have been related to subtle changes in the habitat, such as changes in water currents or sedimentation, rather than to differences in the mode of reef construction. Waisfeld et al (1993) considered that Early Ordovician discoid, domal, or laminar sponges with central cavities were unable to live in environments with moderate to high rates of sedimentation. The occurrence of abundant platy lithistid sponges in the present study section may suggest a low rate of sedimentation.…”

“…The orthids listed in this association are dominantly attached forms and can be related to guild G1 of Waisfeld et al . (2003) (low attached, umbo down, ventribiconvex, subrectangular or semielliptical) with very few specimens belonging to guild G5 (low attached, probably interstitial; Skenidiids) and to guild G8 (ambitopic; syntrophopsidae).…”

“…Waisfeld et al . (2003) investigated the general distribution of rhynchonelliformean brachiopods from three different Early to Middle Ordovician basins, namely the Cordillera Oriental, Famatina and Precordillera basins located at subtropical to temperate latitudes.…”
