Early warning system through sustainability livelihoods approach for volcanic disaster management

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to analyse the early warning system of volcanic disaster management through sustainable livelihoods approach. The early warning system is the most important phase on disaster management as to reduce the risk of hazard during the eruption appear. Active volcano in Indonesia has been spread since it is located in the ring of fire. This study uses sequential mixed methodology, start with qualitative-quantitative methodology. The study area are Mt. Slamet and Mt. Merapi where lo… Show more

“…Strengthening the capacity of community by appointing full-time disaster managers and integrating formal and informal education, including training, is a sustainable investment in handling the disaster impact Sustainable Livelihoods Assets (SLA) is an approach to defining the priorities for development activities and involving the lives of the poor and vulnerable [14]. SLA consists of the interaction of capital assets and the transformation of structure and process to produce an outcome [15]. The objective of the study is to analyze the preparedness level of vulnerable areas in Kulon Progo, Indonesia, and to define the correlation between SLA and the preparedness phase of landslide disaster management.…”

“…The mitigation paradigm (Tao & Run-qiu 2017), which was previously responsive, is now being transformed into preventive activity so that risks can be minimised (Faturahman 2019). The early warning system is a process of reducing the impact of risks and hazards for volcanic disaster management which is described in the mitigation and preparedness stages (Dewanti, Ayuwat & Yongvanit 2019b). The stages of disaster management used include prevention, preparedness, relief, and reconstruction, but in practice they are only used for warning and monitoring (Van Westen 2000).…”

“…The risk of mountain disasters can be reduced by involving the participation of local communities directly through the development of an environmental communication system that needs to be developed for an early warning system (Kusumayudha, Lestari & Paripurno 2018). The early warning system is one of the most important phases in disaster management which aims to reduce the risk during an eruption (Dewanti et al 2019b). Preparedness is an important effort that is needed to reduce the impact of natural disasters and it is the responsibility of government and society and should reach all levels of society without exception (Fernalia et al 2020).…”
