Eco-Energetical Life Cycle Assessment of Materials and Components of Photovoltaic Power Plant

Abstract: During the conversion of solar radiation into electricity, photovoltaic installations do not emit harmful compounds into the environment. However, the stage of production and post-use management of their elements requires large amounts of energy and materials. Therefore, this publication was intended to conduct an eco-energy life cycle analysis of photovoltaic power plant materials and components based on the LCA method. The subject of the study was a 1 MW photovoltaic power plant, located in Poland. Eco-indic… Show more

“…Life cycle interpretation identifies in quantitative terms the relevance of findings from LCA, specifically, the disaggregation of results obtained at the LCI stage, characterization, normalization, grouping, or weighting, to specific components [30,36]. The data for the analysis were acquired directly from the car tire manufacturer and a recycling company, whereas the remaining data was derived from the SimaPro databases (PréConsultants, Amersfoort, The Netherlands).…”

“…Therefore, the notion of seeking methods to minimize the environmental impact of products and services throughout their entire life cycle is consistent with the policies of the European Commission. The basic assumption is to implement intervention measures predominantly at the life cycle stages that exhibit the highest potential for reducing the negative impact on the environment [29][30][31][32]. Therefore, the focus of this work is on establishing which stages and factors of the car tire life cycle display the biggest potential for sustainability-driven improvement.…”

“…The LCA process was carried out in accordance with the ISO 14,000 family of standards guidelines [ 24 ]. The main research task was to determine the level of negative (or positive) impact of the life cycle of the tested object on human health, ecosystem quality, and depletion of natural resources [ 24 , 25 ].…”
