Economic-Statistical Design of the Synthetic X¯ Chart with Estimated Process Parameters

Abstract: In this paper, the effects of process parameter estimation on the cost of the synthetic trueX¯ chart are studied. We study the increase in cost when the optimal chart's parameters corresponding to the known process parameters case are used to estimate the cost when the process parameters are actually just estimated. By studying the increase in cost, practitioners will be able to determine whether the optimal chart's parameters, computed based on known process parameters, can still be used to reliably estimate… Show more

“…In recent years, quite a number of studies were carried out on control charts. Some of the more recent ones were made by Costantino et al, 1 Haq et al, 2 Moraes et al, 3 Tuerhong and Kim, 4 Costa and Machado, 5 Bersimis et al, 6 Yeong et al, 7 Teoh et al, 8 Inghilleri et al, 9 and many more. Most of the control charts studied in these papers focus on monitoring either the mean or the variance of the process.…”

“…However, they provided conditions where the saving is larger when the S1 trueX¯ chart is adopted instead of the ordinary trueX¯ chart. The economic and economic‐statistical designs of the S1 chart in case K and case U were studied by Yeong et al and Yeong et al, respectively. The economic and economic‐statistical design of the S1 DS trueX¯ chart of Khoo et al was studied by Lee and Khoo .…”

“…Saleh et al evaluated the EWMA chart's in‐control performance, in terms of the SDARL and the percentiles of the ARL distribution when process parameters are estimated. The economic statistical design of the synthetic trueX¯ chart with estimated process parameters was presented by Yeong et al, where they focused on the minimum number of Phase I samples in estimating the process parameters so that the estimated process parameter–based chart has almost the same cost as its known process parameters counterpart. The adaptive EWMA chart with estimated process parameters was reevaluated by Aly et al , where the simulation results show that the chart provides a reasonable amount of ARL variation from the target in‐control ARL value.…”
