Ecophysiology of mammals

Abstract: Ecophysiology is a relatively recent interdisciplinary field, and although active prior to the 75th anniversary of the American Society of Mammalogists (ASM), it has grown in breadth since then. This growth is in part a result of advances in technology that have reduced the size and improved the portability of key instrumentation, and also made sequencing of proteins and nucleic acids faster and less expensive. Here, we demonstrate the breadth of recent research on the ecophysiology of mammals, quantify the re… Show more

“…These two feed additives did not have a significant effect on the size of the visceral organs in Pengging ducks, which means they did not cause changes in the size of the visceral organs. Tomasi et al (2019) stated that the weight of the visceral organs in several vertebrate animals is fixed (isometric). It was further stated that the increase in digestive and metabolic performance by feed ingredients is closely related to the increase in energy products and metabolite products but does not correlate strongly with the weight of visceral organs.…”

“…Over the course of time such abilities were also perfected by mutations, of which those that best fit the environmental conditions tended to survive [73][74][75] . Regarding animals whose body color pattern is fixed or changing, it can be assumed that evolution "chose" the color they are born in and that the color may change until they reach maturity and, if required, also later.…”

“…In the available literature, physiological measurements have mostly been reported for wild animals in the fields of ecophysiology and conservation physiology. Ecophysiology is a research field investigating the ability of plants and animals to cope with variable environmental conditions by modulating their physiology (Spicer, 2014; Tomasi, Anderson & Garland, 2019). Conservation physiology is a more recent and applied research field emphasising the use of physiological markers to assess the health of wild plant and animal populations (Cooke et al ., 2013).…”
