“…The position of the fertile bud influences the pruning system to be adopted, for varieties that have low fertility of basal buds, it is necessary to adopt a long or mixed pruning system. By adapting the type of pruning to the position of the most fertile buds it is possible to increase productivity, as there will be an increase in the number of inflorescences and consequently an increase clusters produced per vine (Srinivasan & Mullins, 1981;Brighenti et al 2017;Würz et al 2019).…”

“…In many cases less than one cluster per bud is observed, resulting, in most grapevine varieties, annual variations in productivity (Rosa et al 2014;Würz et al 2019). Several causes may be related to low bud fertility, for example, genetic diversity, pruning method, temperature, light intensity, mineral nutrition and hormone concentrations (Srinivasan & Mullins, 1981;Dokoozlian, 2000;Botelho et al 2009;Andreini et al 2009;Taiz & Zeiger, 2009;Brighenti et al 2017).…”

“…Essa redução da fertilidade de gemas, está associado ao maior adensamento do dossel vegetativo, reduzindo a interceptação da radiação fotossinteticamente ativa, e consequentemente reduzindo a fertilidade de gemas. Para BRIGHENTI et al (2017), adaptando o tipo de poda com a posição das gemas mais férteis é possível aumentar a produtividade, pois haverá um aumento no número de gemas férteis ao adotar o sistema de poda adequado para cada variedade, e em cada manejo da videira.…”

“…However, pruning has the maximum influence on the final yield and quality of a cultivar among the different cultural operations in grapes. And berry quality highly depends on the precision of the pruning (Brighenti et al 2017).…”

“…In this study, three different intensities of pruning were tested on the 'Regent' vines trained with Single Guyot training system, which is a cane-pruned method with spur. The cane buds grow into shoots that produce the yield, in turn the spur buds grow into shoots that can be used as canes in the following vegetative season (Brighenti et al 2017). Vine cultivated in traditional French vineyards is typically pruned to one cane with six to eight buds and one spur with two buds.…”
