“…They have been enormously innovative in developing theories related to family systems, systemic methods of intervention, family‐related research, and social action in relation to larger system issues. While discussion about what has happened to family therapy today remains complex (Breunlin & Jacobsen, 2014; Doherty et al, 2014; Imber‐Black, 2014; Kleiner‐Paz & Nasim, 2021; Lebow, 2014; Liddle, 2014; Rohrbaugh, 2014)‐some [like myself (Lebow, 2021)] see a rich lasting legacy, while others see a decline in attention to specific older methods‐one thing is clear: As time has passed with it has come the deaths of almost all of the originators of family therapy and many of the group the immediately followed them who shaped family therapy.…”

“…Clinical treatments and scientific investigations about the family are almost never the focus of giant government grants, nor do they present opportunities for enormous profits for pharmaceutical companies, which utilize research to provide support for their products. As editor of this journal and a frequent consumer of research concerning families and family therapy, I am eternally grateful for the work of dedicated investigators, who mostly with few incentives have created the enormous base of evidence that informs the clinical practice of family therapy and family related programs, as well as social policy about families today (Lebow, , , , ). All told, the notoriety generated from this work is small and financial profit mostly nonexistent.…”
