Diagnostic tools must be developed to optimize the management of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S) in potato crops. This research aimed to develop the critical dilution curves for Ca, Mg, and S in potato (Solanum tuberosum L. Group Andigenum), establishing harvest indices and characterizing the nutrient relationships. Four field experiments were established in two growth cycles in the localities of Facatativá (high fertility soils) and Chocontá (low fertility soils) in Colombia. Two cultivars (Diacol Capiro and Pastusa Suprema) and two levels of fertilization (0 and 100% of macro and micronutrients) were evaluated. The dry biomass and Ca, Mg, and S concentration in tubers and aerial parts were measured from the formation of main stems until tuber maturation; this information was used to calculate the critical concentrations (Cac, Mgc, Sc), harvest indices, and nutrient correlations. The critical curves established were for Capiro: Cac = 1.7326W-0.2956, Mgc = 0.7191W-0.2803, Sc = 0.6461W-0.3904 and for Suprema: Cac = 1.523W-0.2559, Mgc = 0.6507W-0.236, Sc = 0.7669W-0.3932. Critical levels were established for five phenological stages. Capiro had a higher accumulation of Ca, Mg, and S in the tubers independently of locality, while Suprema had better performance in Chocontá. The accumulation of mineral nutrients in the tubers followed the order Ca<Mg<S. Capiro was a genotype with greater Ca-Mg-S uptake and better adaptation to locations. The Cac, Mgc and Sc curves provided a tool to carry out the nutritional diagnoses at critical stages of development and they are the first ones reported for potato of Group Andigenum.

In Colombia, potato cultivation has significant social and economic importance for the population; however, rising input costs and low yields have led to a decline in the areas planted in the country. Biostimulants are substances or microorganisms that can enhance yield by improving the physiological processes of the plants. In Colombia, there are few studies evaluating their efficiency on potato productivity. Therefore, the aim of this research was to assess the effect of biostimulant applications on the growth and productivity of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) variety ‘CIP 39’ under the conditions of the municipality of Paipa, Boyacá department. A completely randomized design was used, with four treatments corresponding to commercially registered biostimulants with an active hormonal ingredient, seaweed extract (SWE), or carboxylic acids, and a control. Variables such as fresh and dry weight of roots, shoots, and total biomass, leaf area index (LAI), yield by quality, and total yield were evaluated. The application of biostimulants resulted in improved physiological response of the plants. The SWE-based biostimulant exhibited a better balance in terms of fresh and dry biomass, as well as in LAI, leading to a significant increase in quality and yield. This indicates that the application of biostimulants can be an alternative to increase productivity in this production system.

El cultivo de papa en la región Andina colombiana es vulnerable a la variabilidad y cambio climático, debido a la escasez hídrica y aumento de la temperatura, afectando la sostenibilidad del sistema de cultivo por una mayor demanda de riego. Con el propósito de evaluar dos tipos de labranza (convencional y conservación) y sistema de riego (aspersión y goteo) sobre el rendimiento y el desempeño fisiológico de la papa cv. Pastusa Superior, se empleó un diseño de bloques cruzados con cuatro tratamientos y un control sin riego. Se evaluó la acumulación de materia seca, rendimiento comercial y variables fisiológicas: transpiración, fotosíntesis neta o tasa de asimilación de CO2, concentración intercelular de CO2, conductancia estomática, uso eficiente del agua intrínseco, uso eficiente de la transpiración cada 21 días después de la emergencia del 50% de las plantas, las variables de suelo densidad aparente, porosidad total y diámetro ponderado medio de agregados antes y después del cultivo, y la productividad del agua. El riego por goteo aumentó el 25,53% del rendimiento frente a la ausencia de riego. No se encontró efecto de la labranza sobre el rendimiento, variables del suelo y desempeño fisiológico, sin embargo, la labranza de conservación mejoró las propiedades físicas evaluadas. El riego por goteo favoreció el desempeño de las variables fisiológicas y la productividad del agua, convirtiéndose en una opción importante para mejorar la productividad del cultivo en zonas secas alto Andinas.
