Efeito do vento sobre a atividade de vôo de Plebeia remota (Holmberg, 1903) (Apidae, Meliponini)

Abstract: Through an automated system, foragers' flight activity of four colonies of Plebeia remota was registered at same time from December 1998 to December 1999. The large amount of data obtained allowed a quantitative and seasonal analysis of the effect of speed and direction of wind on their flight activity. In all four seasons, the smallest flight activity of Plebeia remota occurred when there was no wind or when the wind speed average was below 0.5 m/s. The flight activity peaks occurred in higher measured wind s… Show more

“…Its behavior has been studied for more than 10 years, mainly foraging (Imperatriz-Fonseca, 1985;Hilário, 2005;NunesSilva, 2007) and reproductive diapause, a period when the bees do not construct brood cells and the queen does not oviposit (van Benthem et al, 1995;Ribeiro et al, 2003). In general, diapause begins in April and finishes in August (Ribeiro et al, 2003).…”

“…Hilário et al [23][24][25] studied the influence of climatic factors on the flight activity of P. remota, but he did not present observations on the influence of diapause in the foraging and waste removal behavior for this species. The main aim of this study was to test whether the foraging behavior of this species varies according to the reproductive state of the colony.…”

“…Pesquisas mostram a influência no número de voos de abelhas com a variação da velocidade do vento. Ele é considerado um fator restritivo em muitas pesquisas [32]. Gráficos podem ser gerados mostrando o comportamento de voo de abelhas em função da velocidade do vento e a estação do ano.…”
