“…While evidence arising from these studies indicates that Baduanjin Qigong is beneficial for health, only a few systematic studies have been conducted to summarize the results from these studies. In addition, the systematic reviews were conducted for specific health conditions/parameters, including hypertension [12], type 2 diabetes [20], pain [21], and blood lipid metabolism [22]. …”

“…The previous reviews on the topics were mainly focused on the effectiveness of Baduanjin Qigong on physiological responses (e.g., blood glucose, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and blood lipid metabolism) [12, 22]. However, a comprehensive review has not been conducted to specifically evaluate the effectiveness of Baduanjin Qigong on other health-related outcomes (e.g., sleep quality, quality of life, and physical fitness) in both healthy and special populations.…”

“…NIRS is noninvasive and robust against body movement, and has been validated as a suitable technique for investigating neural mechanisms in psychological experiments (Tsujii et al, 2012). Baduanjin, a form of qigong , can slow age-related memory decline (Wang, 2007) and has a positive effect on lowering blood pressure, blood lipid, and inflammatory factors, which are risk factors for cognitive impairment (Mei et al, 2012; Xiong et al, 2015). Zheng et al (2016) have recently shown that the Baduanjin exercise is beneficial in maintaining or even improving both global cognitive function and specific domains of cognition including memory, processing speed, executive function, attention and verbal learning and memory in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.…”

“…They reported that the effect of internal qigong was not convincing [19], although external qigong was significantly effective [20]. In previous studies, Tai chi, which is Chinese conditioning exercise focusing on graceful movement like qigong [21], and Baduanjin exercise [22] also showed encouraging evidence for hypertension. The type of qigong used in previous studies for hypertension varied from seated qigong [18], Mawangdui Daoyinshu [23], Baduanjin [24], and qigong exercise [25].…”
