“…It was shown that pretreatment with aqueous extract from Morinda officinalis How could improve the sexual performance and increase the serum testosterone level of male rats suffering from reproductive impairment (21). This was consistent with results of another study, which exhibited that administration of oral bajijiasu, an extract from Morinda officinalis How, enhanced the sexual behavior and increased the testosterone concentration of both normal and kidney-yang-deficient mice (22). However, the underlying mechanism needs further investigation.…”

“…The identified active ingredient of the plant, bajijiasu, was also shown to enhance the sexual behaviour of mice, improve the testosterone concentration and sperm quality, and protect the sperm DNA from damage by reactive oxygen species (Wu et al, ). Bajijiasu is suggested to possess androgenic properties, which increased the libido and physical sexual activity of mice (Lin, Lin, Xiao, Liu, & Wang, ; Wu et al, ). It was also found that water‐soluble polysaccharides extracted from M. officinalis stimulated gonadotrophin secretion via up‐regulating the kisspeptin 1‐GPR54 pathway and activation of MAPK phosphorylation.…”
