Effect of Basalt Powder on Hydration, Rheology, and Strength Development of Cement Paste

Abstract: Basalt materials (e.g., basalt powder, aggregate, and fiber) are commonly used in cement-based materials. To understand the mechanism of the influence of basalt on the properties of cement-based materials (i.e., fluidity, hydration, and strength), zeta potential tests with different Ca2+ concentrations were carried out using basalt powder (BP). It is found that BP has a weaker absorption for Ca2+ compared to cement and quartz particles, which is directly related to its surface chemical properties. This weak ab… Show more

“…Basalt stone stands out as a cost-effective natural additive that is abundantly accessible. Li et al [18] and Uncik and Kmecova [19] indicated that using basalt stone powder in cement paste has a significant effect on the improvement of mechanical properties of cement paste. A multitude of researchers have demonstrated that incorporating basalt stone into ordinary-weight concrete, as a replacement for sand and gravel, enhances the mechanical and durability properties of the concrete [20][21][22][23][24].…”

“…A good idea in the production of Portland cement with additions and low-clinker cements is the use of waste stone powders such as granite, marble, basalt or chalcedonite powder [ 15 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 ]. Abdelaziz M.A.…”
