Effect of Biodentine and Bioaggregate on odontoblastic differentiation via mitogen‐activated protein kinase pathway in human dental pulp cells

Abstract: Biodentine and Bioaggregate stimulated odontoblastic differentiation and mineralization nodule formation by activating the MAPK pathway as did MTA. This suggests that the new materials could be useful for regenerative endodontic procedures.

“…The results regarding its antibacterial properties, however, are ambiguous so far (45), which is why the findings of this review are of relevance. If assessed for further properties, MTA also enhances the viability of pulpal cells, induces angiogenesis (46), and stimulates odontoblastic differentiation and mineralization (47). MTA has been introduced to resin composite materials, possibly allowing to omit its separate use as a liner, which could improve clinical results, since the material itself has only low compressive strength and could compromise the restoration placed above (45).…”

“…In turn, when compared with MTA and Biodentine, CEM showed the lowest cytotoxicity in regard to stem cells of human apical papilla [37]. The research conducted by Jung et al [39] shows that BioAggregate also stimulates odontoblastic differentiation of human dental pulp cells (HDPCs) and thus induces mineralization. According to Machado et al [40], the influence of EndoSequence on the differentiation of dental pulp cells is also similar to MTA.…”

“…Moreover, bioceramics may be applied in regenera tive endodontics, which is a new, quickly expanding branch of conservative dentistry that aims to substitute traditional endodontic treatment. Numerous stem cell studies confirm their possible application in regenerative procedures, such as revascularization [36,[38][39][40]. In addition, some of the bioceramic materials, such as EndoSequence BC sealer, TotalFill BC or iRoot SP, are specially designed to serve as root canal sealers for the final canal obturation [1].…”
