Effect of Burn-off Length on the Properties of Friction Welded Dissimilar Steel Bars

Abstract: Friction welding is one of the solid state welding process and it is very popular method to join cylindrical components of similar and dissimilar metals. It is most economical and high productive method for various applications of aerospace, automotive and chemical industries. The joining of austenitic stainless steels using fusion welding methods associated with many problems such as solidification cracks and grain growth. To alleviate these problems, friction welding method has been used for joining of auste… Show more

“…Higher burn-off lengths were observed at the Inconel 625/F22 interface (7 mm) compared to the Inconel 718/Inconel 625 interface (5 mm) during the friction welding. Similar formation of the intermixing layers was reported during the dissimilar joining of the SAE1045 to 316L using the friction welding technique [24].…”

“…[5][6][7][8][9] Since the early 1970s, research on friction welding of dissimilar materials has been increasing, including research on the determination of optimum conditions, the application, and the strength of friction welding. [10][11][12][13][14][15] Chromium molybdenum (SCM440) structural alloy steel is widely used in mechanical parts that require durability such as shafts, gears, and nuts. At the same time, Inconel steel (IN718) has excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance, and its strength hardly deteriorates even at high temperatures.…”

“…Dari table 5 data suhu maksimum Benda kerja Sudut chamfer sangat berpengaruh terhadap kekuatan tarik sambungan las gesek, pengaruh dari sudut chamfer dan pemberian gaya tekan akhir atau upset pressure diatas 120 MPa dapat meningkatkan kekuatan tarik dari sambungan las gesek [12]. Semakin besarnya sudut chamfer maka permukaan dari kedua benda yang saling bergesekan akan semakin luas.…”
