Effect of cocopeat and brass powder composition as a filler on wear resistance properties

Abstract: This hybrid composite is a combination of materials from cocopeat and brass powder as reinforcement with polyester resin as a binder. This hybrid composite is applied to disc pad product material. In the percentage of the composition will be affected of wear resistance of the product. The functions of disc pad as a brake where the principle works rubbing against the disc brake, it is necessary to have composite wear testing. This research method uses the ogoshi method on wear testing by varying the composition… Show more

“…Consequently, Cu particulates remain firmly adhered to the matrix, resulting in less wear [63]. The findings in this study are supported by findings from other studies that show an increase in surface hardness is not always accompanied by an increase in the wear resistance of the brake pad material [56], [63]- [65].…”

“…The specific wear rates produced by the BP_6 specimen (8.67 × 10 −7 mm 2 /kg) are smaller than the specific wear rates produced in previous studies with specific wear rates of 6.9 × 10 −6 mm 2 /kg [ 98 ], 3.3 × 10 −6 mm 2 /kg [ 91 ], and 2.02 × 10 −6 mm 2 /kg [ 91 ]. Nevertheless, the specific wear rates produced by the BP_6 specimen are greater than those of commercial products.…”

“…A smaller specific wear rate, meaning that less material is worn or removed from the material’s surface in the same amount of time, indicates that the material is more wear-resistant. Therefore, the lower the specific wear rate, the higher the material’s wear resistance [ 90 , 91 , 92 ].…”
