Effect of Computational Delay on the Performance of a Hybrid Adaptive Cruise Control System

Abstract: This paper investigates the effect of real-time control system computational delay on the performance of a hybrid adaptive cruise control (ACC) system during braking/coasting scenarios. A hierarchical hybrid ACC system with a finite state machine (FSM) at the highrank and a nonlinear sliding mode controller (SMC) at the low-rank is designed based on a vehicle dynamics model with a brake-by-wire platform. From simulations, parametric studies are used to evaluate the effect of the bounded random computational de… Show more

“…Brake-by-wire (BBW) technology has been used to cooperate with the regenerative braking system, [1][2][3] to enhance vehicle dynamics control 4,5 and to provide driver aids 6,7 owing to its flexibility and precision in braking force control. Various BBW systems have been proposed in recent years, 2,3,[8][9][10][11][12] among which the distributed BBW system is totally different from the traditional braking system.…”

“…For example, if the solution vector is sol [1,0,3], it means that the current missile is engaging target 1, with PNG and the parameter N' 3. We choose PNG as the default guidance law, since PNG is the simplest and still effective guidance law against non-maneuvering or small maneuvering target.…”
