Effect of Cr2O3 on the crystallization, structure, and properties of Ti-bearing blast furnace slag-based glass ceramics

Abstract: The effects of Cr 2 O 3 on the crystallization, structure, and properties of Ti-bearing blast furnace slag-based glass ceramics were investigated. The results show that the transition temperature and crystallization temperature decreased with introduction of Cr 2 O 3 as a while. Specifically, the crystallization temperature first decreased, then increased with the increase Cr 2 O 3 concentration from 0.2 wt% to 0.8 wt%, and finally decreased with further increased in Cr 2 O 3 concentration. The crystal phases … Show more

“…When the Cr 2 O 3 content increases from 0.2 wt% to 0.8 wt%, the dendrites in BFS-based glass-ceramics gradually decrease, while the granular crystals gradually increase until the dendrites almost become granular crystals (less than 1 µm). When the concentration of Cr 2 O 3 is more than 0.8 wt%, the number of granular crystals gradually decreased, while dendrites gradually accumulated [2]. The conclusions of these two studies are similar, and both indicate that higher Cr 2 O 3 content is beneficial to the accumulation of the host phase diopside.…”

“…The above studies show that adding a certain amount of Cr 2 O 3 could effectively promote crystallization. In addition, the variation of Cr 2 O 3 content would induce the transformation of the crystallization mode of the basic glass, from two-dimensional crystal to three-dimensional crystal, and dendrites are gradually refined [2]. For example, CMAS-Cr 2 O 3 glass-ceramics is prepared with BFS as the main raw material.…”

“…The main influencing factors affecting this process include chemical composition and heat treatment. [16][17][18][19] Previous studies claimed that SiO 2 is the primary oxide in silicate glass, and the glass structure featured a significant impact on the material properties. 20,21 CaO act as a network modifier in the silicate network, which can destroy the bridge oxygen bond of Si-O-Si units.…”
