Similarly, a study in Japanese Quail ( Coturnix coturnix japonica ) had found that dietary sodium butyrate and Mannan oligosaccharide (MOS) in combination significantly improved VH when compared to supplementation of sodium butyrate alone (Ghosh et al., 2007). These results could be attributed to the improvement of beneficial bacteria caused by FOS (Hu et al., 2019; Li et al., 2007; Zhou et al., 2007), which is favourable for the enhancement of VH of intestine (Bates et al., 2006; Ringø et al., 2007; Zhang et al., 2015) and thus benefiting intestinal health and growth performance in shrimp.…”

Interestingly, several studies in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) had observed that the synergistic effect of organic acids (OAS) with mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) resulted superior performance (Das et al, 2012;Ghosh et al, 2007Ghosh et al, , 2008, which might be a result of OAS in undissociated form inhibiting the pathogenic bacteria (Nursey, 1997) and on the other hand undigested MOS in the intestinal tract serve as a ligand, adhere to type I fimbriae of pathogenic bacteria and thus improve the population of probiotic-like bacteria in the intestine (Oyofo et al, 1989;Spring et al, 2000). However, to the best of our knowledge, research about the application of TB with FOS in aquaculture is lacked.…”
