Effect of drawing temperature on the structure and free volume of semicrystalline polyester yarns

Abstract: Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ), an environmentally friendly solvent, can change the fine structure of fibers depending on treatment temperature and pressure. This article presents the results of an investigation into the effects of drawing temperature, scCO 2 exposure and tension on structural changes, and mesomorphic transitions in partially oriented yarn (POY) and oriented poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) yarns. Samples of POY and PET yarns were uniaxially drawn at different temperatures to obtain … Show more

“…At low temperature, the PLA polymer chain was restricted and would not be preferably aligned along the fiber axis during drafting process. Increasing the drafting temperature up to 85 and 95 °C, PLA polymer chain had high free volume, but PLA chain would degrade at high temperature, resulting in a low breaking strength . So, the dope dyed black PLA fiber with best breaking strength was drafting temperature at 75 °C.…”

“…Increasing the drafting temperature up to 85 and 95 C, PLA polymer chain had high free volume, but PLA chain would degrade at high temperature, resulting in a low breaking strength. [38][39][40] So, the dope dyed black PLA fiber with best breaking strength was drafting temperature at 75 C. Similarly, high drafting ratio was beneficial to polymer chain aligned along the fiber axis. The breaking strength of dope dyed black PLA fiber was increased from 0.10 N/tex to around 0.40 N/tex when the drafting ratio was 2.5 [ Figure 7(b)].…”
