Super duplex stainless steels have a dual structure with 50% ferrite and austenite. With this phase balance, the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are used. Thanks to these characteristics, their employment is growing, fundamentally, in the paper, chemical, gas and oil industries. overlay welding, or cladding, is associated with the deposition of material on the surface and is commonly used for manufacturing and equipment repair. The properties of the overlay weld depend on the chemical composition and the microstructure, which depends on the welding procedure. Therefore, in overlay welding with super duplex stainless steels, the control of the phases present in the microstructure is essential to protect the required properties. The objective of this work was to study the effect of the heat input (high, medium and low) and the number of layers (one and two) of the super duplex stainless steel weld deposit on the chemical composition, microstructure, hardness and corrosion resistance. For this purpose, six overlay weld coupons were welded by means of the semi-automatic electric arc welding process with gas protection: 1 and 2 layers welded with low, medium and high heat input (modifying the welding speeds). On them, the macro and microstructure were characterized, the geometric and chemical dilution were determined, the microstructure was determined by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, and the Vickers microhardness was determined.

Based on the central composite rotatable design (CCD), clad beads of Inconel 625 were deposited on the surface of AISI 4130 plates using hot wire pulsed TIG (tungsten inert gas arc welding) technique. The response surface methodology (RSM) was used to establish models between process parameters and geometrical characteristics of the clad beads. Then, multiple-track two-layer weld overlay was deposited using the optimized process parameters. The microstructure of the weld overlay is primarily composed of columnar dendrites, and there are also a few planar crystals and cellular dendrites near the fusion zone. Meanwhile, equiaxed grains and steering dendrites are mainly distributed in the upper portion of the weld overlay. Potentiodynamic polarization tests were used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the weld overlay and the substrate. The results show that adding clad layers can enhance the corrosion resistance, which degrades with the increase in Fe dilution. Moreover, the corrosion resistance of the second layer surface is close to that of wrought Inconel 625.

Abstract:The contribution presents the research results of hardfacing metals' resistance in conditions of abrasive wear. Two types of hardfacing electrodes with a different chemical composition were used in the creation of three layers of hardfacing metals. The chemical composition of electrodes determines the difference in a hardface deposit structure. We have investigated the influence of mixing the base metal and a filler metal and the influence of hardfacing welds structure on the resistance against abrasive wear. The results of the experiments have showed that the intensity of wear is very dependent on the parameters of wear as well as the morphology structure of hardfacing metals.
