Effect of graphene oxide on the molecules of a sodium alginate–krill protein composite system and characterization of the system's composite fiber morphology and mechanical properties

Abstract: Graphene oxide (GO), sodium alginate (SA), and Antarctic krill protein (AKP) were blended to get functional fibers. These GO–SA–AKP composite fibers were obtained by conventional wet spinning with 5% calcium chloride as a coagulation solution. The intermolecular interactions of the GO–SA–AKP composite system were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The morphology, crystallinity, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of the GO–SA–AKP composites were investigated with scanning electr… Show more

“…25 This was mainly because a large amount of inter-MHB formed between CMCS and SA molecules, resulting in hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amino groups in the molecule decreasing, thereby weakening the hydrophilic ability. 39 Also, as the inter-MHB proportion increased, the contact angle increased from 43.71 to 59.71, indicating the hydrophilic ability was weakened further.…”

“…This was mainly because the CMCS/SA composite system was prepared by a method of physical blending. 39 Also, the inter-MHB weakened the movement ability of the macromolecules and increased the energy needed to overcome the molecular movement, so that the decomposition temperature increased and the thermal stability increased. 37,38 3.3.3.…”

“…The protein content of antarctic krill is more than 70%, 15 but at present antarctic krill meal is mainly used as fish feed. 16 For the sake of effectively developing and utilizing AKP, a series of works were carried out by our research group. For the composite fibers of SA and AKP, its flame retardancy 17 and dyeability 18 were studied, as well as the effect of sodium salt type 19 and pH 20 on the hydrogen bonding interaction between SA and AKP.…”
