Effect of graphite particles on physical and mechanical properties of nickel matrix composite

Abstract: The composite materials have effective properties and characteristics for use in most modern and important applications such as space and transportation applications, especially in internal combustion engines as well as applications and marine industries. In this study, Nickel-5 vol.% Zirconium dioxide composites with 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 vol. % of graphite particles are prepared by powder metallurgy technique. The samples are pressed at 900 MPa for 1 min after mixing the hybrid composite powders for 15 min by usi… Show more

“…On the other hand, there was a slight decline to 20.3 MPa after this point in elastic modulus at a silica dioxide weight of 15%. The contact features between the silica dioxide particles and the polymer are attributed to the degradation in the mechanical properties of the particulate reinformed composite [ 116 , 117 ]. Filling temperature, filling speed, filling sequence, film thickness, filler percentage, and manufacturing aspect are all variables that can be controlled and can affect the results significantly [ 118 ].…”

“…Higher graphite rates also led to decreased ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and Brinell hardness values. Hammood et al 48 investigated Nickel-5 vol.% Zirconium dioxide composites with varying graphite particle contents. Powder metallurgy was used for fabrication, followed by optical microscope characterization.…”

“…Graphitic carbon particles [1] are widely used for structural health monitoring [2], medical treatment [3], sensing technology [4], cutting tools [5], and tribological applications [6]. These graphitic particles are recognised to regulate electrical conductivity [7,8], thermal management [9,10], damping capacity [11,12], corrosion resistance [13,14], and wear resistance [15][16][17] in numerous industrial products.…”

“…These coatings were recognised as diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings having a distinguished hardness, low friction, and higher scratch resistance. Investigations into DLC coatings have since produced three research streams; (1) improvement in DLC quality and resolving limitations; (2) commercialisation and re-coating; and (3) exploring the fundamental mechanisms and building blocks which combine to produce such superior carbon films.…”
