Effect ofpHand H2S concentration on sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC) of API 2205 duplex stainless steel

Abstract: Effect of pH and H 2 Sc oncentration on sulfide stress corrosion cracking( SSCC) of API 2205 duplex stainless steelThe role of pH value and H 2 Sconcentration on the sulfide stress corrosion cracking of API 2205d uplex stainless steel was studied by means of slow strain-rate tests, polarization curve measurements and surface analysis. It was found that 2205 duplex stainless steel was highly susceptible to sulfide stress corrosion cracking as pH decreased and H 2 Sc oncentration increased.W hent he pH valuew as… Show more

“…Recent research by Liu et al [86] further supports the significance of pH in influencing corrosion susceptibility. In low-pH solutions with H 2 S, the passive film on the metal is quickly disrupted by H + and Cl − ions generated during cathodic reactions, leading to hydrogen diffusion into the metal and promoting corrosion.…”

“…H 2 S acts as both the source of hydrogen for corrosion and a poisoning agent for hydrogen absorption, underscoring the role of H + in determining hydrogen generation and concentration on the metal surface. The decrease in pH at the crack tip during crack propagation enhances HE, accelerating corrosion [86].…”

“…Casing is the key structure that supports the structural stability and safety of an oil well, and its integrity determines its lifespan. Controlling stress corrosion is important to maintain the safe and stable production of oil wells [ 4 , 17 ]. In the annulus of an oil well, some oil films and scale layers are found on the surface of casing steel because of the presence of mineralized water and a small amount of infiltrated crude oil, which slows down the uniform corrosion to a certain extent [ 18 , 19 , 20 ].…”

“…The effect of single chloride or sulfide on corrosion of DSS has attracted many attentions [12][13][14][15][16][17] because both of them can affect the stability of passive metal significantly. For instance, Jeon et al [12] focused their study on pitting corrosion of DSS in NaCl and NaCl + HCl solutions.…”
