“…Para avaliar o estado de ansiedade das crianças, utilizou-se a Escala de Ansiedade Pré-operatória de Yale modificada (EAPY-m), instrumento validado e traduzido no Brasil e que tem sido amplamente utilizado em estudos internacionais 7,8 e nacionais 9,10 para mensurar o nível de ansiedade em crianças pré-escolares e escolares, principalmente no período pré-anestésico imediato e no momento da indução anestésica. A EAPY-m consiste numa escala observacional composta de 22 categorias distribuídas em cinco domínios -atividades, estado de despertar aparente, vocalização, expressividade emocional e interação com a família -que refletem diferentes naturezas de comportamentos que podem ser manifestados pela criança, o que torna esse instrumento muito mais sensível às mudanças nos níveis de ansiedade em relação àqueles que avaliam a ansiedade de forma global.…”

RESUMOObjetivo: avaliar o estado de ansiedade pré-operatória de crianças submetidas a cirurgias eletivas e descrever as percepções emocionais de seus acompanhantes relacionadas ao processo cirúrgico. Métodos: estudo misto de natureza descritiva, com abordagem quantiqualitativa, de corte transversal, realizado com 52 crianças e seus respectivos acompanhantes. Na coleta de dados, utilizou-se a Escala de Ansiedade Pré-operatória de Yale modificada (EAPY-m), para avaliar o estado de ansiedade das crianças, e entrevista semiestruturada para investigar a percepção emocional dos acompanhantes. A análise de dados compreendeu a análise de conteúdo para os dados qualitativos e estatística de natureza descritiva e inferencial para os dados quantitativos. Resultados: verificou-se que mais de 60% das crianças estavam ansiosas. A percepção emocional dos acompanhantes esteve associada estatisticamente ao grau de parentesco com a criança, sendo que mães e pais reportaram mais tensão relacionada principalmente ao medo da anestesia e do procedimento cirúrgico, decorrentes da falta de informações e orientações sobre esses tópicos pela equipe de saúde. Conclusões: é necessário que a assistência de enfermagem pré-operatória esteja centrada na criança e na família e contemple intervenções que promovam cuidado atraumático para a criança e orientações relacionadas à anestesia e à cirurgia para os acompanhantes, especialmente se as famílias estiverem representadas pela figura materna e/ou paterna. Background: Surgery as a stressful experience can affect the child and quality of care plan. Nurses can use non-pharmacological intervention to reduce anxiety and help children cope with this stress. Objectives: This study was designed to compare the effects of dramatic puppet and therapeutic play on anxiety of children undergoing surgery. Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 75 children were divided into three groups (dramatic puppet, therapeutic play, and control) using a simple random allocation method. The study was conducted in Iran in 2013-2014. The revised children's manifest anxiety scale (RCMAS) was used to determine the anxiety of children. The data were analyzed using paired t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Tukey test. Results: The findings revealed that the changes of anxiety scores after the intervention were significantly different among the three groups (P < 0.001), so that the anxiety scores decreased in both the intervention groups (puppet and play) and increased in the control group. Conclusions: Therapeutic play and dramatic puppet can be used by nurses as a care strategy and effective preoperative preparation intervention to reduce anxiety in children undergoing surgery.
