Effect of Radix Trichosanthis and Trichosanthin on Hepatitis B Virus in HepG2.2.15 Cells

Abstract: Radix Trichosanthis is a Chinese herbal medicine that has great medical value and pharmacological actions. There is already a long history of using the plant Radix Trichosanthis as treatment for hepatitis B virus in China. This research mainly focused on investigating the therapeutic effect of different extracts from Radix Trichosanthis on hepatitis B virus, on a cellular level (ex vivo). Cell survival rate of HepG2.2.15 cells was detected by MTT assay. HBsAg and HBeAg in HepG 2.2.15 cell supernatant were eval… Show more

“…TCS was reported to have immune-regulatory activity. It could ablate the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) [ 4 , 5 ]. TCS is a potential antidote against some tumors as it could suppress the tumor cell growth in different ways.…”

“…The plant Trichosanthes kirilowii has a long history of clinical use for treating hepatitis B virus (HBV) in China. As the main component in the aqueous extract of Trichosanthis Radix, TCS is found responsible for the anti-HBV effect [ 24 ]. TCS has significant and effective dose-dependent and time-dependent inhibition of the expression of HBsAg and HBeAg antigen in HepG2.2.15 cells [ 24 ].…”

“…The present study aimed to investigate the resistance of HBV to IFN-α based on a resistant cell model. The HepG2.2.15 cell line is widely used as an in vitro cell model for anti-HBV research (20). Therefore, in the current study, the mechanism of resistance to IFNα-2b and its association with STAT1 was explored using the pre-established IFNα-2b-resistant HepG2.2.15/IFNα-2b cell model (21), so as to provide a basis for finding suitable interventions. )…”
