Effect of Meteorological Conditions and Building Location on CO2 Concentration in the University Campus

Abstract: The quality of atmospheric air and the level of its pollution is inextricably linked with the development of humanity. Its prevalence and the lack of any natural protective barriers causes that it becomes a recipient of increasingly large amounts of different types of pollutants. This is particularly dangerous in the areas where both meteorological conditions and type of building prevent the spread of pollution. By using a portable gas micro-chromatograph it is possible to observe and analyze a seasonal impact… Show more

“…A method for measurement of gaseous pollutants developed by Cichowicz [33][34] was used. Location of the measuring points on the virtual circles was dependent on the possibility of safe and repeatable adjustment of the device (at each measuring point three samples of air were taken).…”

“…The device was used to carry out analyses in field conditions, and due to mounting a PPQ column in the measuring apparatus (Table 1) and thermal conductivity detector (TCD) it was possible to analyze samples with minimum concentration of 500 ppb for up to 300 seconds [22]. The method developed by Cichowicz to measure carbon dioxide by VEGA-GC microchromatograph was used [4]. During measurements the measuring instrument was set both inside and outside the analyzed boiler room.…”

“…However, for some time a significant change has been observed because in ventilation systems automatic control of air flow depending on carbon dioxide concentration in a room is used increasingly thus ensuring appropriate comfort for people staying in a given building [2][3][4].…”

“…All of these elements make up the so-called 'low emission', i.e. emission of pollutants from the emitters of a height not exceeding 40 m [22][23][24][25].…”
