Effect of Methyl Methacrylate– Acrylonitrile -Butadiene–Styrene (MABS) on the Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Poly (Methyl Methacrylate) (PMMA)-Fly Ash Cenospheres (FAC) Filled Composites

Abstract: With the advent of plastics and the wide range of fillers that are available have made modifications as precise as the tailored resins themselves. To modify the properties of polymer either by using fillers or by preparation of polymer blends gives rise to new materials with tailored properties. More complex, three-component systems, obtained by the addition of polymeric modifier to polymer filled composites may be of interest. Use of Fly ash cenospheres is very attractive because it is inexpensive and its use… Show more

“…Bu özellikler uygun matris ve takviye malzemesi seçilerek tasarlanabilir [3]. Genel olarak parçacık takviyeli polimer kompozitlerin mekanik özellikleri takviyenin şekline, boyutuna, dağılımına ve ayrıca matris ile partiküllerin arasındaki yapışmanın durumuna bağlıdır [4]. Uçucu kül, alüminyum ve silikon karbür gibi çok sayıda inorganik dolgu maddesi takviye olarak kullanılmaktadır.…”

“…3 Generally, the mechanical properties of the particulate-reinforced polymer composites depend upon the shape, size and distribution of the reinforcement and also the adhesion between the matrix and the particulates. 4 Numerous inorganic fillers such as fly ash, alumina and silicon carbide have been utilized as the reinforcement in polymer matrix.…”

“…It was pointed out by many researchers that the higher loading of cenosphere in the composite can result in the deterioration of its mechanical properties. 4,5 It was also pointed out that the stress concentration in the composite will increase with the addition of cenosphere which directly attributes to its failure. However, the researchers 4,5 have carried out the study with 30-60% volume of cenosphere in the composite.…”
