Effect of molecular chain length on the properties of amine-functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets/epoxy resins nanocomposites

Abstract: Amine-functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets were prepared by linear poly(oxyalkylene)amines with two different molecular weights, 400 and 2000 (D400 and D2000), attached onto the surface of graphene oxides.

“…All of these results directly confirmed the formation of a covalent crosslinking between FGO and APTES‐bisDOPO. Meanwhile, the XPS P 2p, Si 2p, and N 1s spectra of FGO shown in Figure (d–f) also proved the conclusion …”

“…The graphene oxide (GO), the precursor of GNS, has abundant functional groups on the surface including hydroxyls, epoxides, and carboxyls, which provide the reactive site for covalent functionalization. Moreover, the covalent functionalization significantly alters the Van der Waals interactions among the nanofiller aggregates, making them easy to be dispersed in the polymer matrix [24,25].…”

“…Perhaps the oxygen groups on the surface of GO and AFG are decomposed below 100 °C. The oxygen groups of GO were reduced after the amine groups were introduced, resulting in a decomposition of 5.38 and 2.81%, respectively, for GO and AFG below 100 °C . The decomposition of hydroxyl and epoxide groups was confirmed at around 200 °C, and the thermal decomposition of C&dbond;O of carboxyl groups can be observed at around 183 °C.…”

“…The TGA curves show a successful modification of the GO surface. Perhaps the oxygen groups on the surface of GO and AFG are decomposed below 100 ∘ C. The oxygen groups of GO were reduced after the amine groups were introduced, resulting in a decomposition of 5.38 and 2.81%, respectively, for GO and AFG below 100 ∘ C. 32 The decomposition of hydroxyl and epoxide groups was confirmed at around wileyonlinelibrary.com/journal/pi 200 ∘ C, and the thermal decomposition of C&dbond;O of carboxyl groups can be observed at around 183 ∘ C. After modification, a thermal decomposition was observed at around 190 ∘ C, indicating that the carboxyl groups located on the surface of GO were successfully modified with amino groups.…”
