Background: Polyherbal decoctions are frequently utilized by some Africans for anti-malaria treatment because they are readily accessible, and assumed low toxicity despite possible gonadotoxicities. We investigated ameliorative potential of anti-plasmodial plants Azadirachta indica (AI) and Gongronema latifolium (GL) on Plasmodium-induced gonadotoxities. Materials and methods: Adult male Swiss mice (n = 50) were allotted into 10 groups of (n = 5) animals. All groups were parasitized with 1 × 106P. berghei inoculum for three days except for groups 1 and 10; (normal control [NC]) and (non-parasitized mice administered Arthemeter-Lumefantrine [AL]). Group 2 was parasitized non-treated (PNT), groups 3 and 4 received low and high doses AI (86.60 and 259.81 mg), groups 5 and 6 received low and high doses GL (337.27 and 1011.80 mg), Groups 7, and 8 received low doses AI + GL (86.60 + 337.27 mg), and high doses AI + GL (259.81 + 1011.80 mg), while Group 9 received AL (8 mg), all odes via oral gavage per kg body weights, respectively. Rectal temperature, seminal/hormonal, testicular morphometry and histology assessments were evaluated using standard protocols. Results: Concurrent administration of AI and GL alleviated pyrexia and parasitemia in test groups, compared to NC and PNT groups. Testosterone concentrations were reduced in parasitized groups compared to NC, while sperm parameters significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in PNT and high AI + GL extract groups, but improved in combined low dose with testicular histoarchitecture. Conclusions: AI and GL concurrently administered at low doses mitigate P. berghei-induced gonadotoxicity better than as singly. Introduction. The spermicidal effect of the nonoxynol-9 compound paralyzes sperm by rupturing the cell membrane. Nonoxynol-9 compounds, however, can irritate and itch the vagina. Using a Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) delivery system, alternative herbal spermicides were created in this research using gotu kola, lerak, and neem. To optimize and formulate of NLC formulation herbal spermicides made from a combination of lipids on Glyceryl Monostearate (GMS) and liquid lipids of olive oil using a response surface full factorial design model (22), and analyzing particle size tests, spreadability tests, pH, viscosity, and potential zeta tests. Method. A full factorial design model (22) was employed in this research to optimize and formulate NLC herbal spermicides using a combination of lipids in Glyceryl Monostearate (GMS) and liquid lipid olive oil. Results and Analysis. NLC herbal spermicide particle sizes range from 103.8 ± 0.3 to 178.0 ± 1.2 nm. The spreading power of NLC Herbal Spermicide ranges from 5.8 ± 0.05 to 6.3 ± 0.05 cm. The Zeta Potential of NLC Herbal Spermicide has a range of -17.0 ± 0.8 to -24.8 ± 3.3 mV. Resulting pH range is 5.7 ± 0.2 to 6.5 ± 0.1, resulting viscosity is 564 ± 0.3 to 661 ± 0.5 cps. Discussion. The equation model for the power distribution response has a p-value smaller than 0.05 which means it is significant so that the equation model can be used to predict the power response. Different things occur in the zeta potential response and spreadability which have a p-value greater than 0.05, so it can be concluded that the ratio of solid lipids and liquid lipids has no effect on the particle size and zeta potential parameters.

Neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) is the tropical plant of the family Meliaceae that has been used as medicine. Almost all parts, i.e., leaves, stems, bark, roots, seeds, and flowers can be used to medicate multiple diseases. Apart from medicine and other health benefits, neem is a very promising plant as it could be used to reduce the rate of population growth. The aim of this review is to figure out the effect of neem leaves on the male reproductive system which can be developed into safe and reversible male contraception. The article review used online databases to conduct keyword searches and investigate the active compounds in neem leaves that could serve as antifertility, the effect of neem leaves on reproductive hormones and spermatogenesis. Several studies show that neem leaves can affect the male reproductive system by interfering spermatogenesis, e.g., reducing the amount, motility, and morphology of the spermatozoa, affecting the structure and function of the testes which cause a decrease in the quality of spermatozoa. Abnormal spermatozoa could reduce spermatozoa ability to fertilize. Thus neem leaves can be proposed as male contraceptives.
